Kangaroo Kitchen is a product of PerfSpot LLC. This page says what the Kangaroo Kitchen app and this website collect, what we do with it, and how to get it deleted. It is written to be read.
What we collect
- Your email address, so you can sign in.
- Your name, only if you add one in Settings, so the people in your household see who suggested a meal. Without one, they see your email address.
- What you put in the app: your household's name, recipes, weekly plan, grocery check-offs, pantry items and the meals you suggest to your household.
- Who you cook for: how many adults, teens, kids and little ones, plus the allergies, diets, dislikes and priorities you choose. This describes your household as a whole. We never ask for the names, ages or birthdays of the people you cook for. Allergies and diets can say something about a person's health, so we treat them as sensitive and use them only to plan your dinners.
- Busy nights: a date and a number of minutes. Nothing else from your calendar.
- Standard server logs: IP address, device and app version, and timestamps, kept for security and debugging.
Signing in
There are no passwords. You sign in with a one-time code we email you, with Google, or, on iPhone, with Apple. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider, which passes us a verified email address.
Sign in with Google
If you choose Google, we receive your email address and a Google account identifier. We use the email address to find or create your account, and the identifier to recognize you next time. Google may also send your name and profile picture. We do not store them. At sign-in we never request access to Gmail, Drive, Contacts or any other Google service.
We do not sell this data, we do not share it with third parties for advertising, and we do not use it to train AI models. Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. You can disconnect Kangaroo Kitchen at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Sign in with Apple
If you choose Apple, we receive your email address, or a private relay address if you choose Hide My Email, and an Apple account identifier. We use the address to find or create your account and the identifier to recognize you next time. Apple may also send your name the first time. We do not store it. We also keep a token that lets us tell Apple to disconnect the app when you delete your account, which Apple requires. At sign-in we never request access to iCloud, Contacts, Photos or any other Apple service.
We do not sell this data, we do not share it with third parties for advertising, and we do not use it to train AI models. You can stop using Sign in with Apple at any time in iPhone Settings, under your Apple Account, then Sign in with Apple.
Your calendar
Calendar access is optional. It is used only if you turn on your phone calendar under Busy nights from your calendar in Settings, and allow access when your phone asks.
Your phone looks at when you are busy between 5 and 8 pm and works out how many minutes you have to cook. That calculation happens on your phone. The only thing sent to us is the date and the number of minutes.
Event titles, locations, guests and notes never leave your phone. We do not store calendar data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not use it to train AI models.
On iPhone, if you connect Google Calendar directly, your phone asks Google only for your busy and free times. That request goes from your phone to Google and our servers never see it. The Limited Use rules above apply to it too.
You can turn this off at any time: in the app under Settings, Busy nights from your calendar; on iPhone in Settings, Privacy & Security, Calendars; on Android in Settings, Apps, Kangaroo Kitchen, Permissions, Calendar. If you connected Google Calendar directly, you can also remove access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
What we share
- The people in your household see everything in it: recipes, the plan, the grocery list and the pantry. That is the point of sharing a kitchen.
- Companies that host our servers, handle sign-in, deliver email and receive the messages you send us from the Support page process data on our behalf, under their own terms.
- Ahrefs counts visits to this website for us (see Tracking and cookies). It gets no data from the app.
- When you import a recipe from a link, our server fetches that page. The site sees a request from us, not from you.
- We don't sell your data, we don't run ad trackers, and we don't share data with data brokers.
Tracking and cookies
The app does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and it contains no advertising software or analytics.
This website counts visits with Ahrefs Web Analytics, so we can see which pages people read and where they came from. It sets no cookies and stores no personal data. Ahrefs sees the page you visit, the site that sent you, your browser and device type, and your IP address, which it uses only to work out your country and then discards. It cannot recognize you from one day to the next or follow you to other websites.
This website sets no cookies of its own, and there are no advertising cookies.
Your choices
- Take your meals with you: Settings, then Export meals, gives you every meal you keep as a file, archived meals included.
- Delete your account: in the app, go to Settings, then Delete account. The steps and what gets removed are in How do I delete my account?
- If you can't get into the app, message us from the Support page and we will delete it for you.
- If you signed in with Google, you can also remove our access from your Google Account.
- If you signed in with Apple, you can also disconnect Kangaroo Kitchen in iPhone Settings, under your Apple Account, then Sign in with Apple.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your sign-in details and your data are removed right away, and so is your household if you were the last person in it. Copies in our database backups expire within 30 days. Server logs are kept for 30 days. If another person is still in your household, the household's recipes and plans stay with them.
Email communications
We only send the email the service needs: the sign-in codes you ask for, and messages about your account or a material change to the service. These are required to use the service and cannot be opted out of while your account is active. We don't send newsletters or marketing email today. If we start, every one will carry an unsubscribe link, and we will update this page first. We do not share your email address with third parties for their own marketing, and we do not use your email to market our other products without your separate explicit consent.
Children's data
Kangaroo Kitchen has nothing in it that is unsuitable for children, so it carries the lowest age rating on the App Store. Accounts are for the adults who plan a household's dinners: the service is not intended for anyone under 13 (or 16 in the EU), and we do not knowingly collect data from children. The app asks how many children you cook for, never who they are.
Where we operate
We operate from the United States. By using the service you acknowledge your data is processed in the US.
Changes and questions
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. For questions or requests about your data, contact us.
